texting crisis

Sometime after I registered for classes, I was automatically enrolled in USF’s emergency text service and boy do they send out texts. There always seems to be some sort of danger on campus and they let you know through countless updates. I’ve received messages about fires, accidents, and all sorts of gas leaks, but today’s texts were by far the most interesting. Apparently they had two simultaneous incidents involving weapon-toting strangers on campus. All seems to be resolved as of the last text, but I could not help but wonder at the oddity of the following situation:

“Tampa Campus – white male subject seen in the Cooper Hall area in black tank top, cowboy hat carrying black puppy and a large hunting knife – Officers enroute.”

It took them a while to track this person down… I had an hour’s worth of text before they spotted the guy. With a description like that, how did he manage to elude them for so long?

Luckily, I’m a distance learner so I’ve never even been on campus, but I’m not sure I would want to after all these cases.
