a trying time

Had a somewhat terrifying moment last night as my mom and I drove home after a visit to the b-chan’s place. A car drove up behind our’s while we were at a red light and the driver started flashing the high beams at us as we started driving. My mom drives slow, but not so slow that it was a ridiculous speed. Plus, there were few cars on the road, they could get around us. The lights were so bright, and the car so close to us, that my mom couldn’t see well enough to switch lanes and was afraid to get into an accident. Worst part was that my car’s check engine light was on, and it stops on the best of days, so we were afraid that it was going to stop. Even when I put my hazard lights on, the other car wouldn’t go away and kept tailing up down the road. I had to call 911 because we were afraid they were up to no good and my mom was starting to panic. At one point, while I was on the phone with the dispatcher, they took a red light and kept tailing us. Eventually, they changed into the right lane, stared us down, and drove off really fast, but I got a sight of their tag and the cops were already nearby because the dispatcher was directing them to us.

We ended up parking at the local police station and my mom was checked out by the Fire Rescue team because she was so nervous. We were upset that the police didn’t tell us much; I just heard them mention “road rage” among each other, and then the other car was allowed to leave. Not sure what it was all about, but they had no excuse for road rage–they started following us at a red light. What did they think we were going to do? Take a red? It just seems too easy to explain it away as road rage when there was no provocation.

Ruined an otherwise lovely weekend.
